Orchids

Not a genre. Just something that's become a personal obsession.

Little did I know, when I took on a project for an orchid nursery, I would develop a somewhat obsessive fascination with orchids. As each has it's own "personality", I approached the work from the perspective of a portrait rather than the traditional still life. This is a focused series from the much larger collection. Each flower isolated against black, treated with the same planning, the same attention to light, the same refusal to leave the frame to chance. And a new thing I'm pretty proud of.

It's true, you always have to keep an open mind. Who knew?
